One of the most difficult challenges that one faces on his or her grief journey is that special events never seem the same after a loss of a loved one. It is helpful to do something that helps make these events that you choose to participate less challenging for you. You might do something special and personal for you to help yourself feel a little better during these times.
Perhaps you can light a candle in honor of your loved one. You might say a silent prayer for your loved one. You might even talk to your loved one about this event and tell him or her how much you would have loved them to be with you and share this.
You might even journal about these feelings. Also, seeing your grief specialist prior to these occasions can help you. These reactions are very individual and the choices you make to help alleviate some of the discomfort you might feel are very personal.
