Grief- Future Events

One of the most difficult challenges that one faces on his or her grief journey is that special events never seem the same after a loss of a loved one. It is helpful to do something that helps make these events that you choose to participate less challenging for you. You might do something special and personal for you to help yourself feel a little better during these times.

Perhaps you can light a candle in honor of your loved one. You might say a silent prayer for your loved one. You might even talk to your loved one about this event and tell him or her how much you would have loved them to be with you and share this.
You might even journal about these feelings. Also, seeing your grief specialist prior to these occasions can help you. These reactions are very individual and the choices you make to help alleviate some of the discomfort you might feel are very personal.

You are allowed to have some happy times even if you are grieving. You are not doing anything wrong if you do this. Nothing can take away your inborn right to happiness.
If a friend asks you to go out and do some activity that makes you happy take advantage of this break on your healing journey. Happiness provides a needed relief from your pain and is good medicine for you. It will bring you some bright spots on your healing journey..

When you are grieving it is common to isolate yourself as you feel that you are very alone with your feelings and no one else really understands. It is true that even though someone has experienced a similar situation your depth of your grief is very individual to you and who you are as a person. However, it is helpful to spend time with people who have experienced similar situations and are further along in their grief journey and are positive role models for your healing.

There is also another bonus to this and that is that you can make new friends and expand your horizons.What a positive gift that will be for you!

Everyone grieves differently and at his or her own time. Some people think that being strong is the lack of showing emotion. Crying is a way of showing your saddness and it is more than o.k. for you to cry and let out your emotions. This overwhelming feeling of saddness may cause you to cry alot and at unexpected times. It might make you feel more comfortable in certain situations to excuse yourself to cry in private.

Do not think that you are alone with these feelings. Seeing a grief specialist and sharing these feelings will help you to understand this more clearly. You will understand what a valuable person you are. Accepting yourself as a very valuable person who happens to be grieving will help you immensely on your grieving journey toward healing.

Getting support shows you are a good and strong person who is willing to show your vulnerability while you are in a difficult patch of time in your life. Getting the proper level of care for yourself is imperative in your healing journey. It shows that you are making good decisions about getting to a better place during bereavement.
